Civil Engineering is one of those branches of knowledge which properly take their places both amongst the sciences and the arts; for a science consists of a collection of general principles or truths relating to any particular subject, while an art are the application of those principles to practice, for the purpose of affecting some particular object. Civil Engineering can be considered as a single largest branch among all the engineering branches.


In general, it is the branch of engineering which deals with the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the structures like buildings, roads, bridges, canals, dams, water supply and treatment systems etc. It has a broader spectrum and comprises of many sub-disciplines under it. The branches of civil engineering are structural engg, construction engg, geotechnical engg, urban / town / municipal engg, environmental engg, transportation engg, surveying, water resource engg, tunnel engg, earthquake engg., material engg. and coastal engg.

The vision of  our Civil Department is to give an exposure to budding civil technocrats to various challenges in the profession. The Department has laboratories equipped with the most modern equipments and test facilities. The main areas of Civil Engineering include Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Hydrology, GIS and GPS Systems, Design of Structures, Environmental Engineering, Solid Mechanics and Transportation Engineering.

Civil engineering takes place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.

To impart quality education to civil engineering graduates by keeping pace with rapidly changing technologies and to create professionals through teaching-learning and research with capabilities of accepting global challenges who shall maintain integrity to serve society keeping  respect for the environment.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

  1. To enable the student, to plan, analyze, design and its implementation on structures, transportation systems and hydraulic systems by taking into account geotechnical and other relevant aspects.
  2. To enable students to understand the reliability performance, economic feasibility and compliance to disaster resistance of various infrastructures
  3. To enable students well acquainted with sound theoretical and practical knowledge to use advanced construction materials, tools and techniques to improve the performance of infrastructure.
  4. To prepare the students to cope up with critical issues for professional practice and interaction with various stake holders.
  5. To enhance student’s soft skills, leadership qualities, team spirit and responsibility towards society keeping in mind global industrial corporate requirement.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

  1. Graduates will be able to understand, interpret, analyse, design and estimate various civil engineering projects.
  2. Graduates with acquired knowledge will be able to improve and enhance challenges faced in civil engineering projects such as quality, consistency, monetary and safety aspects.
  3. Graduates will be able to use modern technologies and to implement the same in infrastructures effectively.
  4. Graduates will be able to work with challenges which will enhance managerial and technical skills.
  5. Graduates will be able to work with the knowledge of professional, ethical aspects and socio-economical challenges and they will be able to deliver task in multidisciplinary aspects.
